Camping can be an entertaining and exciting way to take your family on the trip that they'll remember forever. Not only that, but camping can be something that is affordable enough to do several times each year. Whether you've got a Winnebago and pride yourself on being able to find the best camping site each season, or whether you throw a tent in the back of your car and see what the road brings, camping in the Northwestern part of the United States can be the adventure of a lifetime. With the right equipment, camping in the Northwest can be an easy and fun vacation for your family.

Camping in the Northwest, in general, is something that anyone with any level of camping experience can do. It is important to have rugged camping gear along, no matter what season you are camping in, because this is an area that might be cold or wet, even in the middle of the summer. You want to be sure that you have the right kind of RV or tent that will protect you from the cold and also from the rain if you end up having a wet time. You also want to be sure that you have plenty of good lighting gear like a LED lantern. LED lanterns and flashlights work best in the dense forests of the Northwest, because they provide you with an even light that won't falter. You also won't have to worry about running out of batteries or your bulbs dying either, because with LED technology you can trust your batteries and bulbs to last much longer than you'd think.

There are fantastic campgrounds located all over Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. The nice thing about this area is that it is full of diverse national and state park areas, making it a great area for mountain, desert or river campers. Families that enjoy mountain wildernesses will find great camping in the coastal ranges up Oregon and Washington and along their many rivers. Desert campers can find relaxing places in eastern Oregon and in Idaho.  Even winter campers that enjoy the snow can find open sites around Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens, and The Three Sisters.  These areas have excellent camping areas that can provide you with a great place to stay, beautiful sites, and a lot to do while your there.

Olympic Peninsula
The Olympic Peninsula of Washington is located in the northwestern part of the state. This area has been praised as one of the most beautiful wilderness areas in the Northwest. Because the peninsula is the home to both the towering Olympic Mountains and the Pacific coastline, there is camping options for just about anyone.  The Bogachiel, Sequim Bay, Old Fort Townsend and Fort Worden State Parks are just a few of the many camping and hiking destinations in the area. Camping on the peninsula requires waterproof equipment. The area has a longer than average rainy season and, because parts of the park are near the ocean, the humidity is generally higher than in other parts of the state.

Deschutes National Forest
The Deschutes National Forest located in central Oregon has great camping sites right in the middle of some of the oldest and most beautiful forests in North America. You can enjoy waking up with the sun and watching the colors of the Oregon highlands come to life.  Camping here can be as easy or as challenging as you wish.  There are parks that provide standard amenities and those that leave equipment and planning to the camper.  When camping in the desert, make sure to pack plenty of water and food. Also, packing a powerful lantern or set of flashlights is important as the deserts in the Northwest are very dark at night. Finally, the deserts get cold at night so packing the appropriate warm layers of clothing is essential.

Priest Lake State Park
The Priest Lake State Park has one of the widest selections of camping locations available in Idaho.  RV and tent campers will find camping locations that fit with their expectations for a perfect vacation.  Camping is available all along the shoreline of Priest Lake and Upper Priest Lake, as well as on the Lake’s islands themselves.  Swimming, hiking, camping and boating are some of the major outdoor activities available in this area.
