Holiday Decorating with LED Lights
The most wonderful time of the year is also the most magical-looking, with virtually every neighborhood twinkling with lights. Decorating a home for the holidays gives it a warm, inviting look. Many people put up with the annual tradition of pulling out tangled stands of lights from storage boxes, checking each bulb to make sure it works and replacing the broken ones, primarily because they only have to go through this process once a year. While this task may seem nostalgic, save yourself the time and use LED lights instead.
Why LED lights?
LED (short for light-emitting diode) lights are safer, brighter and more cost-efficient than their traditional tungsten counterparts. When you drop a larger traditional light bulb, you can expect it to break. With an LED light, however, the bulb stays intact because it has an epoxy lens that is virtually indestructible. Additionally, LED lights have a minimum lifespan of 50,000 hours outdoors and last twice as long indoors.
LED light technology only uses 0.08 watts per LED C7 bulb. A traditional incandescent mini Christmas light, which uses a filament, uses 0.48 watts of energy. Standard C7 incandescent bulbs use 6.0 watts. As a result, LED lights are up to 90% more efficient than traditional light bulbs. If you love to decorate the outside of your home during the holidays, energy efficient LED lights will save you a lot of money when it comes to your power bill. Moreover, if a bulb on a strand of LED lights burns out or is faulty, the remaining lights will continue to work.
Tips for decorating with LED lights
Light a path. During the winter, the sun sets in the late afternoon. Add to the holiday look of your home by using LED rope lights to illuminate walkways and stairs that lead to your front door. If you plan to host a holiday party, your guests will appreciate this special touch.
Frame your fireplace. Use mini LED lights to accent your fireplace by hanging them on the underside of the mantle. This will give your fireplace an additional glow. If you have a garland across the mantle, consider wrapping it with LED lights to make this decoration stand out more.
Fun novelty LED lights
LED party accessories. Available on the market are LED glasses, including stemware and barware, which light-up. Purchase glasses in holiday LED light colors, or use a variety of different colors and give each guest his or her own illuminated glass to use during the party. LED-lit olive picks can double as skewers for finger foods. Additionally, you can use LED-lit party platters, punch bowls and serving trays in holiday colors to add to the festive mood of the event.
Flameless candles. Real candles on Christmas trees and in windowsills can give your home a romantic look, but are not recommended because of the fire hazard this tradition poses. LED lights, however, now give you the option to achieve this look with battery-powered flameless candles that use LED light technology. Now you can enjoy the look of this traditional holiday ornament without worrying about house fires or cleaning up messy wax.
Outdoor holiday décor. You can now find all of your favorite holiday outdoor lights made with LED lights, including outdoor tree lights, mechanical reindeer and hanging icicles. Place LED lights that resemble blades of decorative grass in your front yard to accent your home’s landscaping. Also, take advantage of solar-powered snowflake stake lights to decorate your lawn or place along a picket fence.
LED light technology is not limited to a few options when it comes to decorating for the holidays. The choices available that use energy efficient LED lights almost outnumber those that use traditional lights, so the only limit out there is how bright your neighbors will let you illuminate your home before they complain.
