LED Flashlights & Emergency Light Benefits
Owning a car can be a big responsibility. Driving a vehicle is an even bigger one. Not only are you responsible for being a safe driver, you are also responsible for the safety of your passengers as well as for the safety of others on the road. This safety extends beyond just your driving skills – it also encompasses what happens if you break down or need assistance.
It is imperative that you have an emergency kit in your car at all times. You can purchase them at a hardware or outdoors store. They come in many sizes – compact emergency kits that fit nicely into your vehicle without being in the way are very popular. They usually contain an emergency blanket, waterproof matches, candles, road cones, flares, and a flashlight or emergency source of light.
Where any light source will come in handy, most experts recommend having an LED flashlight or light source in your car. Whether in an emergency kit in your trunk, stored in your glove compartment, recharging in your cigarette lighter or hanging from your keychain, a LED light source is an important component to any vehicle and for any driver – from teenager to retiree.
If you break down, a flashlight or emergency light can help you flag down traffic. It can also help you be visible to oncoming traffic should your car break down and have no lights. Because LED lights create an intense, bright beam like those of an automobile, they are best suited for this type of purpose. You can use the flashlight as a taillight, to ensure that oncoming motorists see you in advance and are able to move out of the way. Many emergency lights, which are specifically made for vehicles, have a flashing red light on them, which is similar to that of a flashing signal light at the rear of your vehicle. These can alert other drivers that your vehicle is on the roadway and then they can avoid a collision, keeping you much safer.
Another instance during a breakdown where you could use a flashlight or emergency light is to see what’s wrong with your vehicle. If you are mechanically inclined, you may be able to fix your vehicle, but that’s kind of difficult to do when it’s the middle of the night on a dark road and you have no light to work with. A flashlight or emergency light can really help you look into the problem, and perhaps light the way to make the necessary repairs. Many incandescent flashlights come in compact sizes. However, LED flashlights come in some of the smallest forms and are often ideal for peering into small spaces in a car’s mechanics.
If you have a flat tire, the same instances as above apply. A flashlight or emergency light can act as a ‘see me’ on the road for oncoming vehicles. If you are squatting down beside your vehicle to change a tire at night, you are at risk for being hit by a vehicle. However if you have a flashlight, a flashing light, or an emergency light, you can alert other drivers to your presence and increase your safety.
A flashlight is also good for looking at maps in the dark. If you are broken down, you may need to call a tow truck, emergency services or a friend to come and get you, and you may need to look at the map to pinpoint your location. Because LED flashlights have the longest battery and bulb life of any light source available, they are ideal for keeping in your car for emergency situations. If you are stranded for a long amount of time waiting for a tow truck or help to arrive, knowing that your light source will last hundreds of hours is reassuring.
Another use for flashlights and emergency lights are in the event of an emergency or collision. If you are in a collision, or come across one, a flashlight may help out quite a bit. You can use it as a flag for other drivers to slow down and avoid the scene, or to help you navigate uncertain terrain if you are trying to get to an accident scene that you’ve come across. While you should always wait for emergency personnel, such as the fire or ambulance trucks to arrive, a flashlight may help you locate a patient that is in need of help.
A breakdown, flat tire or collision can happen to anyone, anywhere at any time. You never know what’s going to happen when you leave your home, and being prepared is the key. Make sure that you keep a working flashlight or emergency light, as well as extra batteries if they are needed, in your vehicle, within easy reach. Many LED lights available for the car, like the LED Auto Lenser, can actually be kept in the car lighter at all times so they are always charged and always ready for any emergency.
Having a well stocked car emergency kit that includes a long-lasting, powerful LED flashlight could mean the difference between life and death, in some cases.
