The headlamp has evolved over the years from basic oil lamps mounted on a helmet into advanced LED lights which provides full-spectrum light wherever it is needed.  Though there are a number of recreational uses for LED headlamps, much of this change has been fueled by the needs of industry in order to make a more energy-efficient and safe light source that could be easily used by workers.  While a number of different industries make use of lightweight LED headlamps for a number of reasons, there are three in particular that use these LED lights almost every day.

Search and Rescue Crews

Search and rescue operations can be dangerous, requiring members of a search and rescue crew to go into unknown situations and try to save those who are lost, injured, or trapped.  While some search and rescue operations are undertaken on days when there's plenty of natural light, many of them will continue into the night or have to be performed in various other low-light situations.  Obviously it's a necessity to have a light source that can be relied on, and that's where LED headlamps come in.
Because if the lightweight nature of LED lights, headlamps that use LED's are ideal for search and rescue crews.  They are able to keep their hands free to perform first aid or other tasks as needed, and the headlamps keep the light right where they need it.  Most LED headlamps are made of water-resistant materials, and this lets rescue workers perform rescues in the rain and even during floods without having to worry about their lights shorting out when they need them most.

Miners

Mining is a treacherous job that takes miners deep underground, cutting them off from any source of natural light.  While lights are installed in the mines as they become more secure and developed, the very nature of mining requires miners to constantly be going deeper into the earth where no lights have been placed.  This is where LED headlamps are put to use, providing good-quality light for the miners while not weighing them down with heavy battery packs.

A number of innovations in headlamp construction were made with miners in mind, since their earliest headlamps required oil lamps to be burning and ran the risk of igniting pockets of natural gas if the miners weren't careful.  Electronic headlamps were safer, but needed a lot of battery power to keep them going while often providing substandard light that could strain the miners' eyes.  When LED lights were made available for use in headlamps many mining companies were quick to make the change; in addition to providing better working conditions for their miners, the LED headlamps were much cheaper to buy and operate than the previous headlamp versions.

Industrial Maintenance Workers

Industrial maintenance can be difficult, as it often requires interacting with industrial equipment in ways that factories aren't generally laid out to accommodate.  Maintenance workers often have to go into parts of the factories that aren't well lit, and while there have to have both of their hands free in order to do the necessary maintenance work on the equipment or the factory building itself.  LED headlamps allow maintenance workers a means to do their work with more than enough light to see what they're doing, making their work both easier and safer.

One of the biggest problems that many industrial maintenance workers face is that their work can be dangerous if they aren't able to see what they're doing.  Flashlights often need to be repositioned several times and still aren't able to illuminate everything that the maintenance worker needs to be able to see.  This lack of lighting can lead to a number of injuries which may have been preventable if a better source of light had been available.  Making use of LED lights in a headlamp can help to fix this problem, keeping the headlamp from being too heavy for the maintenance worker to do his job effectively while still providing ample light as he or she goes about their duties.  The LED headlamps that they use are generally made of high-grade materials as well, meaning that the occasional knocks or impacts aren't going to break them.
