You’ve Arrived In The Forest. Now What?

Getting the family packed and ready for a camping trip would seem to be the greatest challenge when making your way to the great outdoors. Certainly it is probably the most labor intensive part of the vacation. As you arrive in the wilderness area of your choosing, it is important that you also find the right campsite to ensure a fun and safe camping trip vacation. So, follow this easy checklist when picking the place to set up your camp and tent.

1. Look for level ground a little higher than the rest of the area. We have all had to struggle through a night of sleep on a slope or uneven ground. That unhappy sleeping situation can make your hiking or fishing trip the next morning unbearable.

2. Make sure you have a nearby water source. This will make getting drinking and cleaning water easier.

3. Find a cooking area AWAY from your tent. Make sure you have a flat surface far from low hanging branches or brush.

4. Don’t camp directly in the sun. A little shade will make the campsite more relaxing to be in during the hotter portions of the day. It will also give you a place to store items that should not be in the direct sun like coolers or items that should avoid getting too damp.

Follow these simple steps for a pleasant and relaxing camping vacation.

“But the place which you have selected for your camp, though never so rough and grim, begins at once to have its attractions, and becomes a very centre of civilization to you: “Home is home, be it never so homely.” ~Henry David Thoreau
