Winter Emergency Tool Kit Reminder

The weather is getting colder as winter becomes a reality for people everywhere.  Inclement weather has already caused power outages in the northwest – hundreds have been stranded in or around their homes without power.  This is a great time to remind everyone to take stock of their home winter emergency kit and make sure everything is in working order. If you don’t have a home emergency kit – build one!  Here’s what you will need in case of emergencies during the winter season:

  • LED Flashlight – They have the longest lifespan and give off the strongest light
  • LED Lantern – A lantern will illuminate an entire room and an LED will last the longest
  • Extra Batteries – You don’t know how long you may be without power!
  • Candles
  • Matches or Lighter
  • First Aid Kit – Make sure this is stocked with bandages, antiseptic and pain relievers
  • Basic Tool Kit – You’ll want hammer and nails in case you need to board up windows, pliers to close off water pipes if needed and other basics
  • Snow Shovel
  • Grip Gloves
  • Salt for Sidewalks/Driveways
  • Several Gallons of water
  • Easy to store, long-lasting food items
