Winter Emergency Tool Kit Reminder
The weather is getting colder as winter becomes a reality for people everywhere. Inclement weather has already caused power outages in the northwest – hundreds have been stranded in or around their homes without power. This is a great time to remind everyone to take stock of their home winter emergency kit and make sure everything is in working order. If you don’t have a home emergency kit – build one! Here’s what you will need in case of emergencies during the winter season:
- LED Flashlight – They have the longest lifespan and give off the strongest light
- LED Lantern – A lantern will illuminate an entire room and an LED will last the longest
- Extra Batteries – You don’t know how long you may be without power!
- Candles
- Matches or Lighter
- First Aid Kit – Make sure this is stocked with bandages, antiseptic and pain relievers
- Basic Tool Kit – You’ll want hammer and nails in case you need to board up windows, pliers to close off water pipes if needed and other basics
- Snow Shovel
- Grip Gloves
- Salt for Sidewalks/Driveways
- Several Gallons of water
- Easy to store, long-lasting food items
