Trafalgar Square Will Sport LEDs for the 2012 Olympics
London’s mayor announced plans today to renovate Trafalgar Square in anticipation of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. The square’s two fountains will be cleaned and repaired by experts. Additionally, the mayor announced plans to replace the fountain’s outdated lights with LED bulbs. The switch to LEDs is expected to reduce the fountains’ carbon footprints by 90%, saving 14,600 kg of carbon annually.
Mayor Boris Johnson stated that the new lights will “provide state-of-the-art illuminations for the fountains, whilst providing a showcase for low-carbon, energy efficient lighting in the capital.”
If you’re looking to showcase your home’s grandeur, why not follow the Brits’ example? LEDs are efficient and durable, making them great for outdoor lighting.
