Taiwan To Install LED Traffic Lights
According to The China Post, Premier Liu Chao-shiuan has announced plans to slash Taiwan’s carbon emissions within four years, so as to comply with Chinese President Ma Ying-jeou’s sustainable development policies.
Liu Chao-shiuan’s plan includes measures such as:
- switching to LED bulbs in the city’s traffic signals within three years,
- installing energy efficient lightbulbs and solar-powered water heaters in 140,000 households within four years, and
- outfitting 100,000 of Taiwan’s taxis with cleaner-burning liquified petroleum gas within for years.
The switch to LED traffic signals is especially germaine, considering that Taiwan is one of the world’s top exporters of LED products, including those used by TV and computer screens.
