Pacific Halibut Fishing Can Begin on Oregon Coast Starting August 3

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife announced today that Pacific halibut has returned to the list of fishable species along the Oregon coast for this time of year.  Sports fisherman can now fish halibut north of Cape Falcon starting on August 3rd and continuing every Friday through Sunday until the catch limit is made or September 30th.  Other halibut fishing areas include south of Cape Falcon to Humbug Mountain and south of Humbug mountain.  So, get out your fishing equipment, throw in some circle hooks and get ready for an exciting couple of months of sport halibut fishing.

You can read the entire press release for details on the dates and deadlines for all of the approved fishing areas.  Anglers are advised to read the 2007 Oregon Sports Ocean Regulations for Salmon, Halibut and Other Marine Fish Species booklet for closed areas and other fishing restrictions. Statewide, there is daily bag limit in Oregon of one halibut with no minimum length. Pacific Halibut numbers are managed by the International Pacific Halibut Commission each year and are published in their Catch-Sharing Plan.
