Oregon Fishing Season Still Icy

Saturday, April 26 was the official start of fishing season in Oregon. It, however, was lackluster at best. The longer than expected Winter has meant that the state’s mountain lakes and streams have not filled with the season’s run-off. Water levels are low and fishing conditions are less than ideal.

As of this weekend, snow was still falling in some of the areas best fishing locations, like Cascade Lakes. That means that roads are still packed with snow and some streams remain frozen. Certainly not the ideal time for a fishing vacation.

Fishermen in the area are not deterred, however. They will be patient and wait for spring to kick in before they fully assess the season. They are, however, making sure to be extra careful before setting out on a fishing trip. The roads now are more dangerous, ice along the banks can cause people to slip and fall into the icy waters, and snow showers make getting stuck in a remote area more possible.
