New Book Offers Backpacking Tips from Canadian Naturalist

As originally reported by the Canadian Herald, Canadian backpacking expert Ben Gadd has been hiking the northern back country for over forty years. His hard-earned pearls of wisdom are now yours for the reading in his new book The Canadian Hiker’s and Backpacker’s Handbook: Your How-to Guide for Hitting the Trails, Coast to Coast. The first half of the book is dedicated to an activity that many people never stop to consider: walking. This makes sense: backpacking requires hours of hiking, so a correct walking technique can make or break a trip through the back country.

Gadd’s top tool? A sturdy pocket knife. Good thing you’ve already found an excellent source for multi-tool knives. DLK offers a good selection of knives with more fold-out tools than you can name. With ten tools including a miniature LED LED Commander pocket kniveflashlight, the LED Commander at left might stay in your pocket after the big hiking trip. Or you might opt for a Folding Fishing Tool with a 12-piece bit set. Whatever your preference, one thing’s for sure: with a dependable pocket knife, you’ll be better prepared for whatever comes your way. Or, as Gadd himself might conclude, when backpacking, good preparation brings more relaxation.
