Marl LED Will Help Medical Crews Assess Racing Crash Severity

Here’s a great new application for LED light technology that is innovative, interesting and could help medical crews save lives.  Following the pending approval of it by the FIA, the Marl LED (at right) will be fitted to all Formula One racing cars as a warning light. The LED will be part of a mandatory Crash Severity Indication System that will help medical rescue crews determine the severity of an accident by indicating when a driver has undergone severely damaging levels of shock during a crash.

The Crash Severity Indication System of the FIA – Formula One motor racing’s governing body – uses a number of sensors around the vehicle to measure the force on the driver during a crash. The Marl LED will illuminate if that force exceeds specified levels.

This is another great new application for LED lights around the world. For more on what you can expect from LED technology in the next five years, read LED Light Applications: The Wave of the Future or check out other LED News blogs posted on this site.
