LEDs Brighten Paseo Bridge in Kansas City

Paseo Bridge at night, by Eric RogersFeeling blind to your commute? When passing the same sights every day, it’s easy to miss a city’s beauty. Alert commuters in Kansas City, however, were recently shaken from their hum-drum routine by a new sight: new LED lights illuminating the Paseo Bridge.

Kansas City Power & Light Co. installed 1,224 LED lights placed in 52 spotlights on the bridge. The color of the lights will change according to the season or special event. For instance, the bridge may soon glow in pastel yellow, pink and blue hues to celebrate the approach of spring. With more and more Americans living in urban areas, it makes sense to beautify and highlight local landmarks.

Morrison Bridge, by greyaenigmaBridges across the country are being enhanced by eye-catching illumination. One group that facilitates such displays is the the Willamette Light Brigade of Portland, Oregon. The WLB has has been working since 1987 to light all ten of the city’s vehicular bridges. As a unique non-profit group, The WLB gathers financial support from local businesses and groups to showcase the unique architecture of Portland’s bridges through lighting displays. In 2007, the group upgraded to LED lights in the Morrison Bridge, as shown at right. The change to LED cut lighting costs by 87.5%, and allowed a broader range of colors to be displayed via computer.

If you would like to highlight the unique architecture of your home or business, LED lights are an efficient, cost-effective lighting method. They’re wonderful spotlights, since their directional beam can be aimed right at the the detail you want to accentuate. Coast LED Lenser’s Leflectors are available in white, blue, green, and red to bring just the right tone to your lighting display. When changing the lighting mood is as simple as changing a bulb, it’s easy to avoid monotony.
