LEDs Light MacBook Air Laptop with Style
LEDs sure have come a long way in the last couple of years. Newspapers across the world tout LEDs as a new technology that can save energy and money. As an example, a recent Canadian Toronto Star article provided a thorough recent history of LED applications. A technology that was once relegated to providing the long-lasting lights in calculators and cell phones is now efficiently lighting notebook computers.
The MacBook Air is the first widely available laptop with a display lit by LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes), rather than CCFLs (Cold-Cathode Flourescent Lamps). A recent article in PC World posits that LED backlights are superior because they:
- Provide a more brilliant display,
- Offer significant power savings,
- Do less damage to the environment in the long run, since they last longer, and contain no mercury, and
- LED lights are far lighter, cutting overall laptop weight.
Unfortunately, LED screens are still very expensive. A more affordable way to join the LED revolution (LEDolution?) is to switch some of your interior bulbs. Lightsandknives.com has a selection of bulbs and lamps to fit your lighting needs. Since LED lights are easy to find in multiple colors, you can even change out the bulbs according to your mood or the season. The green beam Leflector bulb at the right could highlight your affection for St. Patty’s Day, for instance.
