LEDs Broadcast Commercials in LA Subway Tunnel
Subway tunnels in LA’s Red Line began showing commercials last Tuesday. LA’s Mass Transit Authority (or MTA) recently approved the installation of a series of 360 LED lights in such a way so as to make advertisements appear to float outside of each window. The lights span a quarter-mile of tunnel. As cars pass by at specific speeds, the combination of a rapid series of the LEDs cause the human eye to see a video. The videos in LA’s tunnels will alternate between as many as 18 different ads each month. Appropriately, a trailer for the movie Speedracer brought in this new era of advertising for the MTA.
