LED Temperature-Controlled Display Cases Hit UK & Ireland Grocery Stores

Marks & Spencer (M&S) has selected the CryoLED2 LED luminaire from NuaLight for installation in their temperature-controlled display cases throughout the UK and Ireland.

NuaLight, along with case manufacturer SPG, has developed the LED solution for this type of half glass door case. The design takes into account the lighting requirements in both the glass doors and the freezer. The LED lighting to be used in the refrigeration case consumes fewer watts in the temperature-controlled zones, reducing the total energy consumed and making the storage case more efficient overall.

The cases have been installed in 450 M&S grocery stores throughout the UK and Ireland. Marks & Spencer has made this transition in an effort to achieve the objectives of its “Plan A” energy initiatives. M&S estimates that this could save them 4.26 giga-watts per hour and may result in a reduction of CO2 production in an amount of 1,850 tons.

Though Mark & Spencer representatives concede that this is only a small step in the effort to reduce energy usage within its stores, it is proud of the roll-out of the Nualight product.
