LED Screens To Illuminate Cultural Squares During 2008 Olympics
Display and visualization solutions company, Barco, has been contracted to install 14 LED screens strategically around Beijing in preparation for the 2008 Olympic Games. The screens will be used to broadcast live from the events during the weeks of the Olympics. This development is all part of the Olympic Cultural Square project lead by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Radio and Television. The locations of the LED screens - designated as “cultural squares” – include Long Tanhu, Chao Yang Park, Sculpture Park, Shun Yi, Yu Ting Bridge, Capital Museum and Fengtai Park. Fourteen squares in all will broadcast live video from the games along with government bulletins. After the games, the LED screens will remain and be used for broadcasting advertising, live video and news bulletins. (Read more about LED video displays in this blog)
Barco is providing its SLite 14, SLite 10 XP FX LED tiles, D320 LED processor and B-10 mobile LED display as part of its on-going work with the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Radio and Television. Their products were felt to be an ideal solution for outdoor LED display installations which require bright video, viewable from long distances. The bureau felt the technology is excellent for serving outdoor applications ranging from sports stadiums and spectator venues to outdoor advertisements. Again, the improvements constantly being made to the technology is ever widening the lighting applications LEDs can serve.
