LED lighting display enhances the Grand Lisboa Hotel in Macau

With more than 50% of its gross domestic product and nearly 70% of its government revenue generated from the gaming, tourism and hospitality industries, it is no wonder that casinos in the Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR) are investing in innovative and extravagant lighting displays to attract tourists.

Installing long-lasting marketable displays that attract and “wow” visitors was a major goal for the Grand Lisboa Hotel. The hotel has recently installed a new lighting system that uses LED technology from Daktronics. The outdoor lighting visual effects are customizable so that the hotel can also create and display text messages, graphics, animations, and video images.

The 10,609 square meter exterior egg-shaped podium is lit up entirely through the use of over 59,000 ProPixel LED lighting “pucks” from Daktronics.  Each “puck” contains 20 LEDs (8 red, 6 green, 6 blue) which Daktronics says were chosen over conventional lighting methods for their superior brightness, long lifespan, low power consumption, and unique visual appeal.

The hotel’s exterior has been designed to emulate the look of the yellow lotus flower, generally considered the official emblem of the Macao SAR.
