Hunting Knife Blades Have Style

When choosing a hunting knife, knowing the difference between various blade types may come in handy.  The most popular hunting knives are typically one of three styles of blades – clip point, drop point or skinning.

Clip Point
Clip point blades are thin, flat blades with an accentuated point. They are great multi-purpose blades, good for hunting purposes but not the most efficient.

Drop Point
The drop point is a sturdy, thick blade perfect for big game hunting needs.  The drop point has a slight curve from the handle to the tip of the blade making it more versatile than the clip point blade. Most hunters find this the best style for most any hunting scenarios.

Skinning
Skinning knives are very similar to the drop point blade. The difference is that the skinning knives curve much more drastically than the drop point blades.  The curve starts in the middle of the blade and curves sharper than the drop point. These knives can be useful for hunting but take a bit more skill to use.

Finding a hunting knife that suits you requires assessing many factors.  Not only should you consider the feel of the handle and the style of the design, but taking into account the blade style may ensure you buy a hunting knife you are happy with.
