Hiker’s Rescued From Mount Rainier, One Dies

Another group of experienced hikers and climbers found trouble in the Northwest mountains this week. Husband and wife, Eduard and Mariana Burceag, and their friend Daniel Vlad, were hiking around Mount Rainier when an unexpected blizzard blew in and dropped two feet of snow, trapping the climbers near Camp Muir, located at roughly 10,000 feet. They were able to call for help at around 3:30am but rescue crews were unable to get to them until 8:15am. During that time, Eduard Burceag suffered from exposure and later died.

The group was prepared for a cold, wet Northwest day hike and were familiar with the Mount Rainier area. They were, however, unprepared for a turn in the weather so drastic and suffered the elements during the night. They did remember to bring a cell phone which they were able to get a signal with and call for help.
