Hiker at Mt. Evans Dies From Fall Off Summit

An accident that ends in tragedy reminds all hikers that safety is the primary concern when being outside.

On July 8th, Larry Gang’s body was found in a ravine below the summit of Mt. Evans in Colorado.  He was hiking on the trail between Mt. Evans summit and Bierstadt where he is thought to have fallen roughly 1,000 feet from the top of the summit.

Gang had started his hike before 9a.m. on Friday morning. His wife notified the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s office on Saturday that her husband was missing.  Helicopters spotted Gang’s body on Sunday morning.

The Alpine Rescue Team spokesman told reporters that Gang seemed to have carried with him everything an experienced hiker needs. Most likely, he was the victim of unfortunate timing; it was speculated he may have been struck by strong winds or took a wrong step.
