Hiker, 90, survives Columbia River Gorge Fall

Chalk this up in the miracle column. Carroll Dubuar, a 90 year old man from Portland, survived a 60 foot fall down an embankment in the Columbia River Gorge this Wednesday. The Sheriff’s department stated that Dubuar lost his footing while hiking around Elowah Falls with his friends. Rescue crews had to use ropes to get to Dubuar who was taken to the hospital but who was expected to be fine. He was an avid hiker who has been hitting the trails with his friends for 30 years.

It is an incredible testament to Dubuar and his love for the Oregon hiking that he was out enjoying the Gorge at his age. It is also a testament to how even the experts can get into bad situations.

I read today in the Oregonian that Carroll Dubuar is doing better after suffering a broken rib after the fall. He is still talking about getting out and hiking again — at 90! You are an inspiration Mr. Dubuar.
