Fly Fishing Tips
Fishing season is in full swing in the Northwest. Many seasoned anglers know exactly where they will be heading every weekend and what equipment they will take. Others are new to the scene and are looking for any helpful suggestion they can get related to how to get the most out of this summer’s fishing season. One particular area of interest for new-comers is fly-fishing. Considered a more difficult style of fishing, many new fishermen and women appreciate getting some tips and tricks from the experts. Below are some fly-fishing tips from Dan Anthon, head guide at The Fly Fishers Place in Sisters, Oregon which were published in this week’s Oregonian.
1. In the day time, the color of an artificial fly is what catches fish attention. In the evening, size and share will attract the fish more.
2. Don’t think that a rainy summer day will keep you inside. Damp weather is an optimal time for insects to hatch which can help your fishing.
3. Observe the bugs that linger over the water as well as the birds. They are a good sign that the fish will jump at your fly as well.
4. Use fluorocarbon leaders and tippets for sub-surface fly-fishing and nylon floats for dry fly-fishing
