Fall Camping is a Great Vacation Consideration

After Labor Day, the number of people visiting State and National Parks decreases significantly. Children go back to school and people return from August vacations ready to start the autumn season. But the BBQ festivities of Labor Day don’t have to be the end of outdoor fun.  If you don’t have kids going back to school, you should consider a fall camping trip.

There are many benefits to camping in the September and October months.  Typically campgrounds reduce their camping fees for the fall. The temperatures are also much milder in fall making it more pleasant for curling up next to a fire.  The fall colors and brisk weather make for great hiking around your camp area and potentially good fishing, depending on where you are.

If you do decide to go fall camping, make sure you go prepared with the right sort of clothes for the weather (water-resistant in case of rain, warm, wool clothes in case of colder weather or snow). Also, make sure you have an LED lantern or flashlight – it will get darker earlier so you will need a light source for a longer amount of time than you would in the summer.

If you didn’t get a chance to camp this summer, don’t write it off just yet.  You may find that camping in September and October a great, relaxing vacation.
