Elderly Woman Rescued After Hiking Trail Fall

While hiking in the Tortolita Mountains Thursday, 79-year-old Carol Gonzalez fainted and required rescue and medical assistance by 23 rescue workers.  Gonzalez was part of a 10 person hiking group from the Heritage Highlands Hiking Club, an organized group for area seniors.  She fainted due to heat exhaustion and received some cuts and bruises to her head when she fell to the ground.  Paramedics were able to get to her and administer an IV to replenish her fluid intake.  Goldberg took the opportunity to remind everyone in the Tuscon area to be prepared when hiking in warm areas.  Be sure to take the proper precautions to stay well hydrated both before and during any hiking activity.  Make sure to have a full water bottle with you when you hike and stock your hiking survival kit with water purification tablets and sunscreen to be safe.
