Dallas Police Department Considers LED Flares
As any new technology gains support, consumers and businesses struggle to find appropriate uses. The green movement is no exception. Across the country, people are wondering if they should switch to green products, or if older solutions are more reliable.
So is the case with the Dallas Police Department, which is considering whether to switch to battery-powered LED road flares, as reported by nbc5i.com. The DPD depends on flares to warn oncoming drivers of emergency situations. Although their bright light certainly captures drivers’ attention, flares also pollute the air. It’s hard to ignore the unique odor of burning flares– somewhere between rotting eggs and just-lit fireworks.
Proponents support the adoption ofLED flares to reduce air pollution. However, some Dallas police officers oppose the new flares because they are not as bright as traditional flares. Many also worry that police officers will be put at risk when retrieving the reusable flares from the road.
As consumers, we must make similar decisions: should we use noxious flares, or opt for more sustainable safety products? Should you select the latter, Coast LED Lenser’s Flash Fire flare, at left, is a smart choice. Its crystal reflection tube LED system and slow, fast, or constant light will make sure your fellow roadsters will see your car.
