Cree Converts All Facilities Lighting to LED Light Fixtures
LED manufacturer, Cree, will be converting the lighting at all of its facilities to LED indoor lighting as part of its LED Workplace initiative. Cree has already begun steps in this direction in 2007 – the headquarters parking lots, entry areas and conference rooms have already been changed to Cree XLamp LEDS. These changes, Cree reports, have resulted in an energy usage savings of 48%. They hope to double that by the end of the conversation. The changes will take place in its headquarters building in addition to the manufacturing facility in Durham, North Carolina (see Raleigh, NC: LED City blog).
As Cree is aware, the energy savings, reduced cost of maintenance and disposal, and the savings to the environment are what make a transition to LED indoor lighting a positive and smart alternative to traditional lighting solutions.
“Conventional wisdom is that LED lighting is years away from widespread adoption. The truth, however, is that the performance of Cree’s LED technology enables real LED lighting solutions today,” said Chuck Swoboda, Cree chairman and CEO.
Cree is working with its local utilities company, Duke Energy, to explore the benefits of LED lighting and to see how this conversion can be implemented into other programs and markets.
