Colorado Hiker To Trek Continental Divide Trail to Raise Funds
It’s amazing the lengths people will go to ensure the preservation of the outdoors and its landmarks for the next generation. Mat Matson, 69, will begin hiking the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) on April 26th as part of a movement to grow awareness for the CDT as well as get young people interested in the outdoors.
The 735 mile long segment he will be conquering this month will cover the CDT route in New Mexico. Over the next three years, Matson plans to hike the trail through Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho and Montana – nearly 3,100 miles total.
Matson’s adventure is part of the Rotary CDT Challenge to raise funds to support the endowment of a Rotary-sponsored Youth Corps that would spend 10 weeks each summer working on the CDT.
