Colorado Fishing Regulation Change due to Rise in Hooking Mortality
The Colorado Wildlife Commission has notified the public that they have approved changing the fishing bag limit at Antero Reservoir in South Park. The change is in response to reports of excessive fish mortality since the reservoir was reopened to the public in July. The new regulation changes the bag limit to two trout of any size; the previous limit was four, with one over 16 inches. The change is effective immediately and will be in place for the next 90 days.
In addition to the bag limit change, Colorado Division of Wildlife will be educating anglers on the correct way to release a fish in an effort to prevent hooking mortality. The likely hood of delayed hooking mortality to a catch is reduced if you are properly prepared with a fishing knife or fishing scissors that can adequately remove the hooks you are using. Using a hook too large for the type of catch you are fishing can result in unneeded deaths to species within a lake or reservoir.
The Colorado DOW is hoping that this change in bag limit coupled with the drop of water temperature expected as Fall approaches should help preserve the fishing in the reservoir.
