Cell Phones Help Washington Hikers Off Mount Adams
New technology and an ever growing number of cell phone towers has made the cell phone perhaps one of the top outdoor equipment must haves for any hiker, camper or hunter. Three hikers on Mount Adams were thankful they had theirs with them this past week.
Search and rescue teams from Yakima County located three people who were stranded on Mount Adams on Saturday night. Two hikers were brothers from Seattle and the third was hiking on his own but both groups had cell phones with them and were able to call rescue crews for help. The hikers were not injured or stranded but simply got lost after nightfall. All three men were able to walk off the mountain on their own.
This is a great and important lesson for modern day outdoors man. Even if you carry the phone but have it turned off while you are enjoying natures quiet and beauty, it may be a great tool to have with you in an emergency. Consider your phone the third piece of hardware to include in your troika of survival gear – LED flashlight, survival knife, and cell phone.
Mount Adams is a stratovolcano in the Cascade Range and the second-highest mountain in the state of Washington, USA.
