Devil’s Staircase Wilderness Bill

Devil's Staircase WildernessI know you southern Oregon folks are always looking for new and interesting places to camp, hike and generally explore. Some of our staff members are in love with the Umpqua River area. Truly, they are in love with the scenery, the river, the amount of exploration as well as relaxation that can be found all along the river area over to the coast. That’s why they eagerly brought this little tid-bit to my attention. The U.S Forest Service is endorsing a new wilderness area in the Southern Oregon Coast Range near Reedsport. The area is known as the Devil’s Staircase and features some of the most remote and beautiful waterfalls the area has to offer.

Oregon Camping Fees May Go Up in 2010

Coast V2 6 Chip FlashlightThe poor economy is hitting our Oregon Parks Departments with the same vigor it is effecting our job market. The government is looking to increase income for the state’s parks department to off-set the rising costs in maintaining our beautiful recreational areas.

Why I Love My Coast Headlamp

Coast HeadlampIt has been a while since I’ve written, readers but not because I’ve been neglecting my love for the great outdoors. Lucky for me, I’ve was enjoying some much needed fun and relaxation earlier this month. The northwest is simply a wonderful place to vacation. I was able to visit some friends and family but also to get in my first of several camping trips before winter sets in. That first trip to the southern Oregon forests and trail ways was wonderfully relaxing, slighting challenging but overall a much needed change from my normal routine.

Memorial Day Camping: Maybe Not This Year

Oregon Camping Memorial Day has been the traditional kick-off weekend for summer camping. The gateway to a summer of hiking, swimming, boating and a general feeling of outdoor ease and comfort, the weekend is a welcome introduction to all the outdoors has to offer. So much in fact, that many are finding that area camping sites are already reserved.
