Cancer Survivor Rob Shaver Hiking Arkansas Forest for the American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society is getting a boost in donations thanks to Rob Shaver. Shaver is an employee of Lewis and Clarke Outfitters in Arkansas. More importantly, he is a bone cancer survivor who has decided to hike the mountainous Ouachita National Forest to raise money for the important organization. Shaver and his friend Blaine Pipps will hike the forest area for an expected 10 days. For each mile he hikes, he will receive a dollar amount from sponsors that are encouraging him in his endeavor. The entire endeavor is both a fund raiser toward helping others but also a powerful gesture of overcoming the odds – surviving the rare cancer that nearly took his life.
Congratulations and Good Luck Rob!
The Ouachita National Forest has over 600 miles of hiking and biking trails that range in difficulty and terrain. Hikers in the area should visit the park’s web site to learn about trail closures or safety alerts in the area. Safety while hiking is key – ensure you have the proper hiking equipment before you go.
