Amsterdam Library Gets LED Lit Bookshelves
Bookshelves will come to life at the new Amsterdam Public Library thanks to the innovated designers at LEDexpert. The library, which officially opened its doors in July of this year, is the largest in Europe and now it just may be the most trend setting. LEDexpert, working with light designers at Arup Lighting, designed an illuminated book shelf that does not take up much more room, would be energy efficient and would meet thermal restrictions. The results were three different luminaries for various sized bookshelves all of which utilize multiple LEDs to achieve a soft, ambient light that is both pleasing and helpful to the eye in the new building. The LED light source is mounted to the front of the bookshelves vertically and cast just the right amount of supplemental light to shelving.
