Are You a Responsibile Hunter?

I ran across a great article by Russ Chastain on line this week. Titled “How to Hunt Responsibly” the article outlines 10 items every hunter should remember as they are out this hunting season. Hunters can find themselves ridiculed by those that don’t respect the sport. These tips help everyone keep the reputation of the hunting community in check. I have summarized the 10 points Russ describes below. You can read his complete article and sign up to receive his newsletter at http://hunting.about.com/od/hunting/ht/htresponsible.htm.

1. Use care and common sense with guns.
2. Follow up on all shots, even if you think you missed.
3. Don’t flaunt your kill.
4. Respect other hunters.
5. Keep the woods clean.
6. Be respectful of non-hunters in the woods.
7. Respect the belongings of others
8. Show your respect for animals by taking only the best shots.
9. Know the law where you hunt.
10.Obey rules and regulations.

“A peculiar virtue in wildlife ethics is that the hunter ordinarily has no gallery to applaud or disapprove of his conduct. Whatever his acts, they are dictated by his own conscience, rather than by a mob of onlookers.” ~ Aldo Leopold
