Willamette River Water Trail to Open
The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department has announced that a dedication ceremony will be held to mark the completion of the Willamette River Water Trail on June 2 from 10am – 2pm at Portland’s Willamette Park.
The Willamette River Water Trail was developed to connect people to the Willamette River and provide for a high quality recreational and educational experience. The trail is a combination of parks and public spaces along the mid section of the Willamette River that stretches from Buena Vista Ferry to Wheatland. The water trail will provide canoeists, kayakers, and others to see and explore the Willamette River for a day or if they choose for several days. There are riverside camping areas available all along the trail.
The ceremony will have a number of guests including Governor Kulongoski and project partner representatives from Willamette Riverkeeper, Oregon State Parks and the City of Portland. Waterproof water trail guide books will be provided at the event.
This water trail appears to provide a great new outdoor adventure for Oregon residence. There is so much about the Willamette River that most of us never get to see, areas beyond the small stretch that runs through the city center.
