Chinook Season Starts This Week on the Lower Columbia

Coast Fillet Fishing KnifeMonday marked the start of the Columbia River Chinook fishing season. Many consider the salmon that come up the lower Columbia to be some of the best so it is no wonder that anglers are buzzing this week about the prospects for the 14 day season. Fish and Wildlife is estimating that a run of 70,700 summer chinook are likely to make their way up the Columbia this year. So get your fishing gear out this weekend, buy a chinook fishing tag and head out to the Columbia for some much needed relaxation,sport and good ole’ NW fun.

Get the Kids Outside: Family Nature Walk – Oak Island, Oregon

Doctors and advocates have been telling us for the last couple of years that our kids are getting less active, more obese and less motivated. They are siting everything from video games to more working parents as the cause. Though we really can’t blame any one factor, it is important we do what we can, when we can to get the kids outside and interacting with nature. The fresh air and stimulation will do them good, even if it is only for a couple of hours. Here’s one option for this weekend…
