Cree Launches Smallest Lighting Class LEDs

Cree_XPECree, Inc. has come out with two new lighting-class LEDs that provide the same high-performance and reliability of their other LEDs but in a 80% smaller package. One of the new XLamp LEDS is just 3.45 millimeters square by 2 millimeters high which makes it ideal for backlighting, signage, indoor, outdoor and portable lighting applications which are moving to smaller and lighter form factors.

Wine and LEDs | A Brilliant Combination

Wine Bottles LEDsIndal, a Spanish lighting company has combined two seemingly opposite obsessions to create a visually stunning piece of art. Indal has lined the Castilla y Leon Pavillion, located until September 14, in the Expo Zaragoza 2008 in Saragossa, Spain with over 30,000 wine bottles filled with thousands of RGB LED light bulbs. The show as well the design of the pavilion was meant to showcase themes of water and sustainable development.

Oregon: Fort To Sea Trail Hikes

Lewis And ClarkThe Lewis and Clark National Historical Park will be holding several ranger-led hikes on the Fort to Sea Trail on Wednesdays through Sunday from now until August 31st. The hikes will vary everyday but are open for all ages and difficulty levels. Hikers are encouraged to dress for the weather with comfortable hiking shoes. They are also asked to bring water and food for lunch and plan to be prepared for a potential emergency, as a precaution. Hiking with your dog is welcome for part of the hike as is bicycling.

Cree Opens Technical Education Center in Shenzhen

Cree_LogoLighting designers now have a new place to turn to learn about the basics of LEDs – their measurements, circuitry and functionality. Cree has opened the Cree Shenzhen Engineering Center in Shenzhen, China as a training facility to lighting product designers and manufacturers interested in learning the best practices for LED light design and construction. The facility will have application engineers, along with technical and sales staff available to teach courses and provide consultation on XLamp LED designs. The staff will also be able to evaluate new LED designs for efficiency and performance.

Virginia: Pilot LED Streetlight Program Hopes To Deter Crime, Reduce Light Pollution

LEDStreetLampThe City of Manassas, Virginia is hoping that the installation of new LED lights along its streets will help cut down on light pollution and discourage vandalism and other crimes. The program is set to be tested out in certain neighborhoods this Fall. The Electric Utility ofr the City of Manassas is urging residents to provide their feedback on the new lights which will be replacing the existing high pressure sodium lights currently used throughout the city. The LEDs provide a true white light where as the older lights give off a pale yellow glow. Police are hoping the LED light beams will reduce the amount of petty crimes in the neighborhoods where they are installed.
