Squid Fishermen May Switch to LED Lights

Reef Squid by DP HershmanJapan’s fishing industry has suffered significant profit losses due to rising gas costs. Squid fishermen, especially, are hurting from high fuel prices, due to their technique, which involves blasting oil-powered halide lamps lights resembling those used in baseball stadiums to attract squid from their natural habitat 200 feet below the surface. Japan’s squid fishermen have already staged several strikes asking for subsidies from the Japanese government, which has promised $95 million in aid to the fisheries industry.

Taiwan To Install LED Traffic Lights

Taipei, Taiwan skyline, taken by Chris/ Orange Tuesday at FlickrAccording to The China Post, Premier Liu Chao-shiuan has announced plans to slash Taiwan’s carbon emissions within four years, so as to comply with Chinese President Ma Ying-jeou’s sustainable development policies.

Grizzly Attack Reminder To Keep Distance, Be Safe

Yellowstone_BearSpringfield, Oregon resident, Steven Bartley, was attacked last week by a bear that snuck into his Yellowstone Park campsite in Montana. The 59 year old Bartley was sleeping in his tent went the bear swiped at him. He did his best to fight off the bear with his hands though, the bear was able to bite both. The bear did eventually get scared off, leaving Mr. Bartley with puncture wounds that required stitches and a fractured right hand.

Canyon de ChellyThe Canyon de Chelly National Monument is one of the most beautiful and best maintained archeological hiking areas available to American History buffs. The Arizona canyon boasts incredible architecture, artifacts and rock imagery that create a sense of pride and purpose in how Native Americans lived and continue to live. A community of approximately 200 Navajo people continue to live in the area giving it an incredibly historic and spiritual feeling.
