Boston’s Oldest Church Lit By LEDs

Interior of Old North ChurchPaul Revere would certainly be shocked at today’s technology. When he made his famous midnight ride over two hundred years ago, the lantern was the most advanced form of interior lighting. In stark contrast, LEDs are today’s cutting-edge lighting choice. Even Boston’s Old North Church, where Revere’s “One if by land, two if by sea” lanterns shone, has been updated to LED interior lighting, as reported by LEDs Magazine.

America’s Towns Turned on to LED Traffic Signals

Traffic Light from polifemus on FlickerGreen, yellow, red. Go, slow down, stop. Perhaps, for the more adventurous, go, floor it, stop. We see traffic lights every day. The very language of traffic signals has is woven into the American lingo: we’re often told a project has gotten the “green light.” But how often do we stop to think about how our traffic signals work? Moreover, how often do we consider how our communities could make traffic lights more effective?

LEDs Reduce Wal-Mart’s Energy Costs

LEDs are popping up everywhere these days. As previously mentioned in this blog, cities across the country are installing LED street lights to cut energy costs. A recent article from the Springfield, Missouri Business Journal highlights another place LEDs where could save energy: in grocery store refrigerator cases.

Tricking the Circadian Rhythms: LED Lights Could Help Keep Drivers Awake

Blue LED Lights from MrBill at FlickrAre gas station energy pill packs a thing of the past? What about No-Doz, Rock Star energy drinks and other less legal solutions for fatigue on the road? Thanks to a new study of blue LED lights, these solutions may soon be outdated.

According to New Scientist, researchers at Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute in New York are researching how to use blue LED light to keep drivers awake. Blue LED light could increase alertness by convincing the body’s internal clock that morning has arrived.
