Toronto continues to make great strides as a leader in the LED City Program by driving energy-efficiency in the city through LED light technology applications. By finding ways to utilize LEDs in different buildings, signage, and equipment applications, they are making their mark on North America as a city that really cares about being eco-friendly and socially conscious. Just this last week, the city became the first to have a residential building completely convert to LED interior lighting.
The United Kingdom seems to be taking the improvement of its lighting infrastructure and the resulting environmental and cost saving benefits seriously. The money will go toward industry-led, collaborate research in this area, specifically targeting inorganic and organic LEDs.

So many of us say we want to make a difference in this world and then go right along with our daily routine, never truly taking the actions necessary to improve our world or the lives in it. When Tony Newton visited Sri Lanka in 2005, just after the tsunami had destroyed the lives and livelihoods of those people, he knew he had to do something to help the villagers trying to rebuild their homes. At that time they were using dangerous paraffin lanterns for home lighting because electricity was not available. Newton left the country determined to find some way to create an eco-friendly lighting source for third world countries that would be inexpensive and safe.
