Experts Agree – LED Headlamps are Must-Haves for Camping

If you have been wondering whether investing in a quality LED headlamp is a good idea, take it from an expert – it is. In the October 2007 edition of Cooking Light, the editors asked experts what they considered the best camping equipment. In addition to a mini-water purifying system and a compact, thermal camp mattress, an LED headlamp was considered one of the best additions you can make to your camping gear.  Ann Froschauer, the southeast regional program coordinator for the National Parks Conservation Association was quoted as saying, “I can’t do without my LED headlamp during camping trips because it allows me to be hands free for nighttime camp setup.” She recommends finding one that is comfortable and small enough to fit in your pocket.”

Fall Hiker’s Paradise in the Poconos – October 19-21, 2007

The Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC) in Dingmans Ferry, PA will be holding their Fall Hiker’s Paradise on October 19-21, 2007. The weekend will be filled with easy to moderate hikes through the beautiful fall foliage throughout the area.  Beginners and hiking aficionados alike will enjoy the weekend of being outdoors and learning about the nature that makes it one of the U.S.’s most beautiful regions.

Hike Ontario’s Greenbelt

The Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation has announced the availablity of the Greenbelt Walks hiking brochure and map. The foundation has made these handy documents available to encourage Ontario residents to get out and explore the beautiful country in which they live. These easy-to-use brochure are now available at over 225 LCPO stores throughout the Greenbelt area.

Mountaineering and Hiking Safety Taught at Mountaineering Safety Promotion Day in Hong Kong

The Civil Aid Service of Honk Kong, along with several government departments, has taken steps to improve safety in its highly trafficed mountains by creating a Mountaineering Safety Promotion Day.  People who attend the September 23 event  will receive tips on how to enjoy safe hiking and mountaineering.  Advanced mountaineering instruments and systems, climbing techniques and search and rescue skills will be highlighted at the event. Gizmo and gadget lovers will also get to see digital map and global positioning systems, night vision equipment and computerized weather maps in action.
