New LED Light Bulbs Can Replace Flourescent Lighting

LED technologists have made a tremendous stride toward the worldwide transition from standard fluorescent lighting toward more efficient LED options.  The EverLED TR is a new LED fluorescent bulb that utilizes existing fluorescent ballasts found in all fluorescent lighting fixtures.  The new bulbs provide the same light output but with the efficiencies and cost savings of light emitting diode (LED) technology.

Warm-white LEDs illuminate Croatian Riviera

The Riviera waterfront in Croatia, a popular destination for millions of vacationers each year, is now illuminated with warm-white outdoor LED lighting fixtures. Schreder, a leading outdoor lighting manufacturer, has created the custom streetlight design that now adorns the waterfront walkways.

Colorado Man Breaks State Mackinaw Record

Florence, Colorado resident Don Walker broke the state Mackinaw record while fishing at Blue Mesa Reservoir over the Memorial Day holiday. The record-breaking catch weighed in at 50-pounds, 5-ounces.  The previous state record holding catch (caught by Walker’s brother-in-law in 2003, ironically enough) weighed 46-pound, 14-ounces.  The record was officially verified by the local Department of Wildlife.

DOE Schedules LED Report Webcast

Last week, I reported that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has been funding several LED and OLED lighting research and development projects as part of their Solid State Lighting (SSL) program. This week the DOE has announced they will host a 90-minute live webcast on July 2, 2007 in an effort to educated the public on the DOE’s recently released 5-Year SSL Commercialization Support Plan. This webcast is the first in a series that will focus on solid-state lighting topics such as LED packaging, economics of LEDs, LED basics, Luminaire efficacy, and thermal management.

Salmon Fishing Season Paper Available through Fishing & Hunting News

Salmon fishing season has arrived. Anxious anglers are heading out to their favorite freshwater mountain streams to catch their limit of the beautiful swimmer.  Late June is the prime time to begin the fishing season in most of the northwest rivers.  Fishing and Hunting News has their “Summer Salmon Annual” paper on newsstands now for more salmon fishing information.  Highlighted in the paper are stories on fishing prospects at Half Moon Bay, the Golden Gate, Fort Bragg, the Klamath River, and the Trinity River.
